Jerry Bruckheimer To Split With Disney? Updated!

Jerry Bruckheimer could be ending his association with Disney according to this report from Variety. Bruckheimer is set to meet with Disney’s studio head in order to negotiate new terms of their long-standing working relationship. Their current agreement, which includes a first-look deal by Disney, extends back several years but will end next spring.

Disney currently has Bruckheimer locked in with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and National Treasure 3. However, the general feeling is that, aside from those franchises, Bruckheimer’s knack for big-budget successes has largely expired. One such movie, The Lone Ranger, lost the studio a lot of money.

A Bruckheimer-Disney split wouldn’t really be seen as a loss on either side: Disney have LucasFilm, Marvel, and Pixar under their umbrella, and Bruckheimer has several projects in the works at other studios including Bad Boys III and Top Gun 2.

It’s official. Here’s a quote from Mr. Bruckheimer.

I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at The Walt Disney Company for over twenty years and the twenty-seven movies we have made together. The good news is we will continue working together on Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure and other projects we have developed together at the studio,” said Jerry Bruckheimer. “I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing people at The Walt Disney Studios, many of whom have become my good friends. As we continue to make adventure films, we look forward to returning to films like Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State, Beverly Hills Cop, and The Rock.’
